Transcriptome sequencing of genes related to glucose availability in Schizosaccharomyces pombe by RNA-seq analysis

(Submitter supplied) Gene expression profiles in Schizosaccharomyces pombe mid-log-phase cells grown in three different Synthetic Dextrose medium with different glucose content were compared using the RNA sequencing method. Expression patterns of genes that function in carbohydrate metabolism were downregulated as expected, and these genes were downregulated in line with the increase in glucose content. Significant and consistent changes in the expression were observed such as genes that encoding retrotransposable elements, heat shock proteins, glutathione S-transferase, cell agglutination protein, and conserved fungal proteins.

Comparative analysis of global transcriptional profile of Escherichia coli and Schizosaccharomyces pombe in respiratory and fermentative growth: Inferring the evolution of analog circuits of post-transcriptional regulation

(Submitter supplied) Next Generation sequencing techniques have ushered in a new era in life sciences, especially genomic research. Currently, massive RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) has increased knowledge about the "RNA universe" from the global characterization of transcriptomes, differential gene expression studies and the continued discovery of non-coding regulatory transcripts such as non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). Post-transcriptional gene regulation is a mechanism for controlling gene expression that is present in both prokaryote and eukaryote organisms and regulates multiple biological processes. more...

Adaptation to industrial stressors through genomic and transcriptional plasticity in a bioethanol producing fission yeast isolate [RNA-seq]

(Submitter supplied) Schizosaccharomyces pombe is a model unicellular eukaryote with ties to the basic research, oenology and industrial biotechnology sectors. While most investigations into S. pombe cell biology utilize Leupold’s 972h- laboratory strain background, recent studies have described a wealth of genetic and phenotypic diversity within wild populations of S. pombe including stress resistance phenotypes which may be of interest to industry. more...

Genome wide transcriptional response to altered levels of the Rpb7 subunit of RNA polymerase II identifies its role in DNA damage response in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

(Submitter supplied) RNA Pol II is a highly conserved and multisubunit protein complex composed of 12 different subunits. Rpb4 and Rpb7 are small subunits and uniquely present in RNA Pol II in eukaryotes. Rpb7 is essential and highly conserved protein among all eukaryotes. However, we have a limited understanding of the functions of Rpb7 subunit. Therefore, in the present study, we have used whole genome microarrays to compare the transcriptional response of S. more...

Micro-C XL: assaying chromosome conformation at length scales from the nucleosome to the entire genome

(Submitter supplied) Structural analysis of chromosome folding in vivo has been revolutionized by Chromosome Conformation Capture (3C) and related methods, which use proximity ligation to identify chromosomal loci in physical contact. We recently described a variant 3C technique, Micro-C, in which chromatin is fragmented to mononucleosomes using micrococcal nuclease, enabling nucleosome-resolution folding maps of the genome. more...

Expression data from fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe under nitrosative stress

(Submitter supplied) Nitric oxide being a versatile molecule inside biological systems, from being both a cell signaling molecule to a potent stress agent, has significant effect in the transcriptional response in fission yeast. We have used fission yeast microarrays to identify cellular targets of Nitric Oxide (NO) and to further understand the cellular mechanism of NO action. We report the change in the global gene expression profile response to NO in S. more...

RNAi mediates post-transcriptional repression of gene expression in fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe [Illumina Genome Analyzer]

(Submitter supplied) RNA interference (RNAi) is a gene silencing mechanism conserved from fungi to mammals. Small interfering RNAs are products and mediators of the RNAi pathway and act as specificity factors in recruiting effector complexes. The Schizosaccharomyces pombe genome encodes one of each of the core RNAi proteins, Dicer, Argonaute and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (dcr1, ago1, rdp1). Even though the function of RNAi in heterochromatin assembly in S. more...
