Data Types Accepted in a Variation Batch Submission

Created: ; Last Update: June 15, 2010.

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

I was reading a publication, and found a number of variations not currently in dbSNP. Can I submit these variations even though I didn’t write the paper?

Yes, you can submit variations described in a publication not authored by you, but you must be able to describe the variations using HGVS nomenclature. You will see that the submission template has a field for the inclusion of the PubMed ID number, so that the original reference for the variation will be linked to the submission. You can also submit a single variation from the literature using the Human Variation: Search, Annotate, Submit site. (04/09/08)

I have some additional information for a number of variations already in dbSNP. Can I use the Variation Batch Submission to add my information to the dbSNP records for these variations?

To submit additional information for variations already in dbSNP, follow the directions for creating a submission (see the “Beginning the Submission Process” section of this document), and when filling out the submission template, place the additional information you have for each variation in the variation’s “comment” field.
