Study: Response of mHAT9d cells to TGF-beta isoform stimulation
show Abstracthide Abstract
Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) is a signaling molecule that induces cell proliferation, cell differentiation, chemotaxis and apoptosis in epithelial, mesenchymal and neuronal cells. Three TGF-beta isoforms (TGF-beta 1, TGF-beta 2 and TGF-beta 3) with similar biological activities have been identified in mammals. The TGF-beta signals are thought to regulate multiple events not only in secretory-stage ameloblasts but also in transition- and maturation-stage ameloblasts via autocrine signal transduction. In this study, we performed an experiment to understand the different responsiveness of TGF-beta isoforms. Specifically, a dental epithelial cell line derived from the apical bud of a mouse incisor (mHAT9d cells) was cultured in the presence of three TGF-beta isoforms, and gene expression was observed.
