Probe database will be retired

In April 2020, NCBI's Probe database will be retired and the web interfaces will be taken down. Probe db was originally implemented as a registry of nucleic acid reagents for biomedical research applications. Probe was implemented at a time when array-based assays were prevalent. However, with the advent of short read sequencing, these technologies have declined. Consequently, the usage of and need for Probe has dropped significantly. Although the web interfaces will be retired, the content of the database will be frozen but will continue to be available on NCBI'sFTP ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/pub/ProbeDB/. NCBI Probe will not be accepting new data submissions following this announcement due to the impending decommissioning of this database. Please contact us at info@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov with any comments, concerns, or if you need help with the use of Probe data.
