Polyadenylation is a post-transcriptional modification to the 3' end of eukaryotic mRNA involving the addition of a sequence of ~250 adenosine nucleotides in a template-independent manner, and occurs about 30 base-pairs downstream from a short signal sequence in the primary transcript, typically AAUAAA.
