Welcome to the Taeniopygia guttata Genome Resources page. This homepage provides information on zebra finch- and avian-related resources from NCBI and the zebra finch research community. If you have questions about any of the resources or have a resource to add please let us know. We encourage your suggestions.

[Taeniopygia guttata (zebra finch)]

The zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata), a small songbird native to Australia and islands in the South Pacific, has a long history in aviculture. Zebra finches are sexually dimorphic, with the sexes exhibiting differences in behavior and appearance. This bird with a 'singing genome' serves as a model for research into the role genes play in brain development, learning, and behavior.

Release of zebra finch build 1.1 in Map Viewer: This build represents an annotation of the 6X Taeniopygia_guttata-3.2.4 assembly from the Genome Sequencing Center at the Washington University School of Medicine. Map displays include alignment of zebra finch UniGene clusters and mRNAs as well as mRNAs from chicken and avian species other than chicken and zebra finch. A link to the FTP site for the finch Map Viewer files is also provided on this page.

See the May 2008 issue of Genetics for an article by Stapley et al. on a linkage map for zebra finch.
