BLAST against viral proteins

Proteins from viral complete genomes were clustered by sequence similarity based on BLASTP pairwise alignments using the Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) approach. Clusters/groups of related proteins for positive-strand RNA viruses (sspRNA) and negative-strand RNA viruses (ssnRNA) were obtained by a new method that takes into account the positions of PSI-BLAST hits (unpublished). The clusters/groups are displayed by major genome type categories, e.g., dsDNA, sspRNA, etc., with an exception of phage clusters ("Phage") that are shown separately. Read more

Along with the "classical" form of COG representation, this site offers a new graphical interface that displays common portions of BLAST hits between any number of user-selected proteins in a cluster/group. RPS-BLAST hits into the NCBI Conserved Domain Database are shown as well. BLAST against viral proteins is an additional helpful functionality.
